![]() Audient ASP510 Surround Sound Controller [Manufacturer's Website] The Audient ASP510 is a 5.1 surround sound controller that is used between your console or DAW and monitoring system. It can be used for monitoring in 5.1, LCRS, Stereo and Mono. It features three 5.1 and three stereo source inputs, Encoder/Decoder Insert, and Stereo Fold down mode. It consists of two pieces: The remote control and the 1 rackmount space unit. The connectors on the 1 rackmount space unit are 25-pin D-SUB connectors. The audio cables are electronically balanced or ground sensing topologies with extensive RFI rejection networks. The 25 pin D-SUB type connectors are wired in accordance with the Tascam DA88 convention. There is a complete pin out of the connections in the manuals. There are a number of ready made cables that would work The ASP510 operates in one of 5 modes: 5.1, LCRS, Stereo, Mono, and Bypass. It also has a 5.1 FILM mode that can be used to attenuate the Left and Right Front speakers by 3dB. It has supports three 5.1 surround sound inputs and three stereo inputs that are switchable via the desktop remote control. There is a switchable 120Hz filter is provided for the sub bass monitor path. The unit can also fold down or collapse 5.1 to either LCRS, Stereo, or even mono. This allows you to test what the audio will sound like when played back on fewer speakers. It does this with the correct down-mix coefficients which is important for an accurate impression. For example say you are mixing for a DVD-Video with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound but the listener only has stereo playback on their TV. It’s probably a good idea to check the mix in stereo and fix any problems before sending it on to be authored. It has an analog signal path that uses digitally controlled attenuators as trim and mute controls. The signal path is transparent and has a flat frequency response with 22 Hz to 22kHz range. Very low noise with less than 0.003% THD at +4dBu at 1kHz. The remote control has the ability to sense if an input and can SOLO or CUT (Mute) the channel. There is also a DIM mode that lowers the volume while talkback is taking is active. With the SOLO and CUT buttons you can test and calibrate your system. It even includes a pink noise generator and an insertable 80 Hz sub-bass filter. You can use the Encoder/Decoder insertion point for use with a Dolby Surround Encoder/Decoder for realtime use. The encoder and decoder is inserted in to the output monitor path which allows you hear what the encoded and decoded material will sound like. This helps to further reduce any potential errors from making in to the final mix. With a flick of a switch you can remove the it from the signal path. Features
